순수 미술을 대표하는 뛰어난

우크라이나 화가 Kateryna Bilokur,

​

순수 미술로 전 세계적으로 알려지기까지

그녀의 이야기를 듣게 된다면 매우 놀랄지도 모릅니다.

​

우크라이나의 외곽지역에서 태어나

정치, 경제 등 여러모로 힘들었던 환경 속,

'그림'은 그녀의 피난처가 되어주었습니다.

​

그림을 그릴 재료가 없었던 그녀는

직접 붓을 만들고 사탕무 주스,

딸기, 양파, 가막살 나무속 약초 및

그녀 주변에서 그림 재료로 활용할 수 있는

모든 것을 이용하여 그림을 그렸다고 해요.

​

그것은 그녀의 작품들을 통해 고스란히 드러나는데,

대부분 자연 풍경, 생생하고 활기찬 꽃들, 과일 등

자연적인 소재들을 많이 볼 수 있어요.

​

1920년에 미술학교에 입학을 시도했지만 입학에 필요로 한

7학년 이수를 완료했다는 증명서가 없어 입학을 하지 못하였고,

폭넓게 미술 공부를 할 기회가 거의 없었습니다.

​

하지만 그러한 과정 속에서 그림에 대한 그녀의 열정은 더욱 가득해져

배우지 못한 것에 대한 마음을 털어버리고 그림 작업에 더욱 집중하였습니다.

​

1930년에 그녀의 작품은 우크라이나 가수인 Oksana Petrusenko의 시선을

사로잡아 Oksana Petrusenko를 통해 큰 갤러리와 쇼에 참여하며

더 큰 미술계로 들어갈 수 있었습니다.

​

그렇게 그녀의 작품은 우크라이나 뿐 만 아니라 유럽으로 뻗어나가

그곳에서 다름 아닌 파블로 피카소가 그녀의 작품을 보고서

마치 몽상에 잠긴 듯 몇 시간 동안 그녀의 그림을 응시하며 매혹되었다고 합니다.
